Do you want to know what personal growth is and how it can be applied in your life to build a better you?
If so, you’ve come to the right place.
Personal growth, in simple terms, is taking the steps necessary to become the best version of yourself through your character, skill, abilities, and overall being.
The words self-improvement and personal development are often used to describe personal growth.
Growing as an individual is a journey that requires intentional action to improve yourself every day.
Personal growth or personal development is not only applied in the workforce, but also in other areas of life such as one’s mental, physical, spiritual, social, and financial state of being.
Let’s get into the ways personal growth begins within us and how it can be applied in your life.
Recognizing Personal Growth
The Desire for Change and Improvement
The first step in the journey to personal growth is having the desire to improve. You have to determine what it is you would like to improve in and where you desire to be in that area.
The word desire means to strongly wish for or want.
Think about your skills, mental or physical health, or even your current situation. Have you ever wanted better for yourself?
Ask yourself “how would it feel to be in the shoes of my higher self?” And “what will it take to get me there?”
Your desire for personal growth should always be something that you truly want. It should not be what everybody else wants because you know what’s best for your well-being.
So think BIG, get super creative, and have fun. It is your birthright to have great things at your fingertips.
The desire for improvement will be a driving force in helping you begin your journey of personal growth and get excited about it.
Create A Vision
The next step of your self-improvement journey would be to create your vision. Imagine your better self in great detail, and ask yourself why it is important for you to become that person.
Ask yourself “What does the better version of you look like? What does the better version of you have? How will I get my current self to where my higher self is?”
I highly recommend writing down your vision in great detail in a journal or notebook, this way you can come back and look at it as many times as you’d like throughout your journey. This will help in times when you may need the motivation to keep going and remember why you started.
Having a detailed vision is important for your personal growth as an individual because it allows for inspiration, motivation, and a higher sense of self-worth.
The next step would be to create goals to help you achieve your vision and build the life you want.
Set Goals, then Break Them Down
Goal setting allows for clarity and direction toward achieving any goal.
Breaking your goals down into mini-actionable goals will show you what actions are needed on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis to reach your desired end goal.
This is where setting SMART goals come in. SMART goals are goals that are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-based.
SMART goals allow you to define your goals to help you in knowing exactly what to do, when to do it, and if the goal is possible and achievable. That is why you need to get clear about what it is you want for yourself.
Take Action
The last step in this blueprint is taking action. Set a routine or a plan in place that will determine what action is needed and how often you will engage in it.
Action is key in personal growth because if you do not take action, your goals become just wishes.
Successful habits are created through consistent action. These habits will then lead to consistent efforts which will work to bring your desired results to you.
It is not always the easiest thing to be consistent, but when your goals are important to you, you will do what it takes to make your end goal a reality for yourself.
As you incorporate these steps within your everyday life, you are not only getting closer to your vision and end goal, but you are creating an environment that grows your personal growth.
