Death and life lie in the power of the tongue. Those that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. – Proverbs 18:21
Why must you watch your words?
Words hold tremendous power.
So much so that they can create your future, sway your triumphs, dictate your outcomes, and more.
Don’t believe me? Keep reading.
In this article, I will explain the three primary reasons why you must watch your words, what could happen if you don’t, and how being intentional about your words can help you attract a higher quality of life.
Why You Must Watch Your Words
Everything is Energy.
Human beings are made up of energy, and within the universe we have negative and positive energy fields.
Our thoughts, our words, are energy.
Because we are spiritual beings living human experiences, it makes sense to talk from the standpoint of energy because we are energy.
The Law of Attraction states that the energy you put into the world comes back to you.
What you repeatedly think and speak of, you will pull more of that energy, good or bad, into one’s life. And that energy will manifest in your life through good or bad circumstances.
Your thoughts become your words, and your words become your actions.
An example of words becoming actions is telling yourself you’ll never be good enough.
The corresponding actions will be indulging in self-destructive behaviors, such as not applying for opportunities because you counted yourself out.
- Sue has a dream job for which she is a great candidate. However, Sue believes she will never get that dream job because she says she is not good enough. Because of that, Sue does not even apply for her dream job.
For those with a similar mindset as Sue, not only will one good opportunity pass you by, but many will until you change your words and thinking.
You’re not willing to put in the effort for opportunities you could be qualified for because you already have the mindset of needing to be better at something.
The words you speak knowingly and unknowingly are potent declarations.
When you give power to something with your words, you have authorized it to take place in your life.
Not all things you speak of manifest, which is a blessing and a curse because many of us do not know the power of our words.
Imagine if everything you said came true? Even on your bad days?
The subconscious mind is always listening and takes words literally
The subconscious mind is very powerful and is in charge of many tasks. It is more vast than the conscious mind, controlling over 90% of our thoughts and behavior. It plays a large part in creating our realities.
The subconscious mind never sleeps, so it hears everything, even when you’re asleep.
When you talk about your goals, dreams, or insecurities, the subconscious mind hears it all and forms this information into your beliefs and views on how you feel about others, life, and, most importantly, yourself.
If one constantly thinks the worst about oneself or life, the subconscious mind formulates those thoughts and words as good or bad because it takes words literally.
It then aligns your energy with that of correlating circumstances, good or bad, outside of you to bring you the reality you have made true for yourself through your words and thoughts.
If you want to avoid certain events, refrain from repeatedly thinking or speaking about them.
Your words seal the deal when combined with your thoughts. This creates your reality.
We are always manifesting.
We are always manifesting our realities, whether we like it or not.
Unfortunately, there is no switch button to turn off the manifest meter when you’re not feeling it today, so we always have to be wise with our words.
It takes commitment and a genuine desire for better to create a higher quality of life for oneself.
This can be done by simply speaking words of life.
Speaking with Intention
Speaking with intention allows for clarity when improving one’s quality of life.
With intention, your words have purpose, direction, and the authority to work in your favor.
You choose your words wisely and are more careful with your words.
To speak with purpose, one must:
Be mindful of negative speaking patterns
Take time to be one with your thoughts and recognize the traumas, old habits, and mantras that shaped how you viewed and spoke about life. Monitor how you currently talk and note your current perception and speaking pattern.
– Ask questions such as: does your tone of voice tend to be more condescending or encouraging? Are your views about yourself or on life more negative or positive?
Think before you speak
Thinking before you speak breeds great self-control and minimizes saying things you do not mean. It allows you to fully process your thoughts and be confident in what you say while watching what you say.
Positive self-talk / Affirmations
Words are highly influential. Get in the habit of using words to speak life to attract an abundant and fulfilling reality. Train your mind by listening and reciting affirmations daily.
- Heres a testimonial on how using your thoughts and words can bring financial abundance. Video name: How I stopped being broke – Verdant Vanille on Youtube.
Affirmations will assist in reprogramming the mind to create more positive thought patterns, thus encouraging a positive vocabulary.
Talk to yourself and about yourself in a high regard. Consume high vibrational content frequently. Get used to transforming how you use your words by surrounding yourself with words of positivity.
Challenge yourself to create affirmations that are personable to you and your life.
Say your affirmations daily to start reprogramming your subconscious mind by using the power of repetition.
Words are immensely powerful.
What you speak of, negative or positive, can manifest and become a part of your reality.
The words one speaks can manifest because humans are energy. The subconscious mind is always listening, and we are always manifesting, whether we know it or not.
If one is not careful, the reality one attracts with one’s words may lead to a life full of downs, chaos, and negativity.
But through speaking with intention, by thinking before you say, practicing positive self-talk, and practicing mindfulness, you are setting yourself up to live an enriching life.
Knowing that you have such a massive part in creating your reality, wouldn’t you want to ensure you make one you liked starting by watching your words?
